Despite women’s participation in labor market rises in Turkey, most of them are employed at works that require less qualifications or don’t provide social security. There are currently 3.1 million female workers of 7.7 million female workers in total that have social security. Most of them work in the retail, education, health, bureau, food and beverage, ready wear and food sectors.

New sub-regional structure will help to built a strong and unified voice for democratic, progresssive and independent trade unions in the Arab countries.

A new law on trade unions and collective agreements in the private sector was adopted. Important shortcomings remain, in particular as regards the right to collective bargaining at all levels and to action including strike.
