Trade UNION delegation from Austria and Hungary who was hosted by DISK in İstanbul, visited dismissed UPS workers on the occasion of WDDW.

UPS workers, welcomed the representatives from Austrian Trade UNION Confederation (ÖGB), Lower Austria Labour Chamber (AK.NO) and Hungarian Metal Workers UNION (VASAS) in ‘the fightback tent’.

Tayfun Görgün, General Secretary of DISK, made a speech and reminded that International Trade UNION Movement is organizing demonstration all around the world to promote struggle for decent work and decent life. ‘While government is talking about democratic reforms, workers are losing their jobs as they use their fundamental rights such as joining a trade UNION’ said Görgün.

Hermann Haneder, President of Lower Austrian Chamber of Labour, remembered solidarity messages from VIDA UNION of Austria. He mentioned that dismissals are outdated and recently Austrian workers organized an action to block UPS’s call-centers.

Rainer Wimmer, the President of PRO-GE UNION and Bela Balok, President of Hungarian Metal Workers UNION made solidarity speeches. Balok promised to organize solidarity events for UPS workers in Hungary as soon as he turns back to his country.

Kenan Öztürk, the President of TÜMTİS UNION, who spoke on behalf of workers, thanked international delegation and DISK for solidarity. Öztürk said struggle of UPS workers will go on.

Also on October 6th, international delegation visited DİSK / United Metal Workers UNION /Birleşik Metal-İş) and metal factories in Gebze. Then they attended fightback in Mutaş enterprise where 26 metal workers dismissed as they joined trade UNION.
