DİSK’s call to the government: Ratify ILO 190!

The ratification of the ILO Convention No. 190 and Recommendation No. 206 on violence and harassment at work is a crucial step for workers and women. This is also a result of the campaigns and efforts of the trade unions and the women’s movement for years, built on the experiences of international violence and harassment of women workers in the unions.

Ratify ILO 190

Convention No. 190, adopted by the ILO for the prevention of violence and harassment in the world of work, has been ratified by many countries. However, the Turkish government still needs to ratify the convention.

In Turkey, women members of DISK have been fighting on the streets for a year due to disapproval of the gender-based violence and harassment convention. Finally, in November 2021, the Turkish government pressured women all over Turkey to ratify the ILO Convention 190. So the women workers who came together to fight violence and harassment in the workplaces in Izmir, Ankara, and Istanbul raised their voices: Ratify ILO 190!

The second part of the ILO 190 campaign of DISK was to meet with political parties and institutions in Turkey. DİSK delegation, chaired by DİSK Arzu Çerkezoğlu, organized contacts in Ankara on 15-16 November 2022, demanding the ratification of the ILO Convention on Violence and Harassment No. 190 from the Turkish government.

Before meeting with political parties and institutions, DİSK women shared their policy document on struggling with violence and harassment with the public in Ankara.
