EXTREME POLICE VIOLENCE IN TAKSIM SQUARE
IMF & WB PROTESTS OF UNIONS FACED
BY EXTREME POLICE VIOLENCE
ITUC & ETUC affiliates DİSK and KESK gathered in Taksim Square in İstanbul with the support of several organisations such as Chamber of Doctors (TTB) and Chamber of Engineers (TMMOB). UNIONs declared the protestations against the meetings of IMF and WB which are organized in Istanbul this year.
Sami Evren, the President of KESK made a speech in the square on behalf of UNIONs. Right after the speech, the Police used tear gas, pepper gas and water canons. Around 100 people were taken under custody tens of people injured.
‘It is clear that the police attack was planned before the protest started.’ The Police used extereme violence against the demonstrators while peaceful blocks of trade UNIONs were waiting in the square.
