Detentions and Raid against KESK
Today has started together with news about imprisonments and police raids. In the early hours of the day, the police raided into offices of KESK and houses of trade UNIONists.71 people were detained including Lami Özgen, President of KESK.
Headquarters of KESK and headquarters of affiliated UNIONs [Eğitim-Sen (EI) SES (PSI), Tüm Bel-Sen (PSI), BES (PSI) ESM (ICEM) Haber-Sen (UNI), Tarım Orkam-Sen] as well as branch offices and houses of trade UNIONist were raided in provinces such as Istanbul, Ankara, Diyarbakır, Ağrı, Bitlis, Siirt, Adana and Eskişehir.
During the raids some of the offices were damaged. General Secretary of Eğitim-Sen, Mehmet Bozgeyik, Gender Secretary of Eğitim-Sen, Sakine Eren Yılmaz, General Secretary of SES, Mehmet Sıddık Akın, President of Tarım Orkam-Sen, Metin Vuranok, Gender Secretary of Haber-Sen, Seyran Şık, former President of BTS, Yunus Akıl, Gender Secretary of ESM, Emel Emre, were also detained.
We know that this is an attack against the trade UNION movement and against the right to freedom of association. Today we stand by KESK as we did in the past. We kindly ask you to contact the relevant authorities for immediate and unconditional release of our colleagues.
